JD.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: JD) surges around 7% in pre trading session on Thursday as the business is happy to announce today that Ms. Sandy Ran Xu, JD.com’s current chief financial officer, has been named as the Company’s chief executive officer and an executive director, succeeding Mr. Lei Xu. Mr. Lei Xu will step down as the Company’s chief executive officer and executive director for personal reasons. Mr. Ian Su Shan, the current chief financial officer of JD Logistics, has been named as the Company’s new chief financial officer.
Mr. Lei Xu will begin the process of handing the CEO role over to Sandy immediately, leaving ample time for a seamless transition before his retirement in June. Mr. Xu has been with JD.com in different senior capacities for over a decade and has made important contributions to the Company’s growth. Mr. Xu will continue to participate in the Company’s high-quality development after retiring as the first chairman of its advisory council.
Sandy Ran Xu has been JD.com’s chief financial officer since June 2020. Ms. Xu joined JD.com in July 2018 and handled corporate finance, accounting, and tax responsibilities, as well as acting as JD Retail’s chief financial officer from July 2018 to May 2020. Ms. Xu worked as an audit partner for PricewaterhouseCoopers Zhong Tian LLP in Beijing and PricewaterhouseCoopers in San Jose before joining JD.com. Ms. Xu also serves as a director of JD Technology. Ms. Xu graduated from Peking University with a bachelor’s degree in information science and economics.
Since May 2022, Mr. Ian Su Shan has served as JD Logistics’ chief financial officer. Mr. Shan will begin working for JD.com in December 2021. Prior to that, Mr. Shan worked at Lavender Hill Capital Partners from October 2019 to November 2021 and served as a Managing Director from January 2021 to November 2021. He also worked in the TMT Group of the Investment Banking Division at Goldman Sachs (Asia) L.L.C. from 2015 to 2019 and served as an Executive Director from January 2017 to September 2019. Mr. Shan earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in law from China University of Political Science and Law and the University of Warwick, respectively. Mr. Shan is a CFA charterholder.
